Revolution in maintenance of reinforced concrete structures

A new Danish-developed sensor technology could make the maintenance of reinforced concrete structures much easier and much cheaper in the future. FORCE Technology is behind the technology in collaboration with Aarhus University and Aalborg University, among others. The new technology is called CorroSense.

An old saying goes “Out of sight, out of mind”. However, this is not a saying you can afford to live by when it comes to reinforced concrete structures. Over time, the reinforcement corrodes, and history documents several foreign examples of structures that have simply collapsed because the iron inside the concrete has rusted and lost its strength. Similarly, a balcony in Denmark collapsed in 2020 in an accident in which several young people were seriously injured, so it’s important to keep a close eye on the iron hiding inside the concrete…
